Burning of the Winter Socks and Soup Celebration

March 23 @ 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM

        image.png

This pungent event will take place to celebrate the beginning of Spring. This event had its beginnings in Eastport, MD in the mid-1970’s when Bob Turner, a boatyard worker, decided to burn his socks and have a beer in tribute to the coming of warmer weather. Legend has it that back when baths were scarce, the boatyard workers wore the same socks all winter and burned them on the solstice.

The sock burning will take place at the jetty area of the community property. Anna and Dave Lee have graciously agreed to offer their garage for the soup celebration part of the event at 100 Bluff Road. If you have a favorite soup that you would like to share please let me know, I need five volunteers! We ask that all other attendees bring a side dish to go along with the soup or a dessert. Don’t forget to take along the beverage of your choice too. Please contact Kathie Koster Kathleen.koster01@comcast.net to let her know if you plan to attend and what you plan to bring so we’re sure to have enough for everyone.
